Are there other women out there like me?

OK, I have learned that I am not like the majority of women in a few areas. Here they are:

1) I hate malls. When I walk into a mall, I feel overwhelmed. I start looking in one store and then think, "Gee, there's 20 other stores that could have better deals!" I end up with one shirt at the end of the day and a feeling of, "What a waste of time."

2) Craft shows-I hate them. I mean, some of the stuff is kind of pretty, but to my way of thinking, it's just more stuff to lift off the shelf when you have to dust. I hate dusting too, but I think most women detest that.

3) State Fairs-It's actually a great place to go if you're feeling rather frustrated with your body. I have found that most people are pretty fat at the state fair. After walking around in the humidity, though, and seeing Johny win a ribbon for growing the largest cucumber in the Western hemisphere, I'm ready to call it a day.

4) Quilting clubs-What does one do with more than one or two quilts anyway?

5) Those little parties that you're always getting invited to where someone is selling candles or jewelry. You end up going because you don't want to hurt the hostess's feelings and then you end up buying something you don't want because, again, you don't want to hurt the hostess's feelings. There is one exception-Pampered Chef-you get to eat the samples!

Hey Rachel,

Just checked your blog and saw a couple new posts! That was fun. :)

Let's see... I like some of the things you mentioned and don't like some of them.

Malls... I don't usually go to them much, and here we mostly go to be somewhere air conditioned when we go out in the hot temps!

I really like a good deal, but sometimes it's hard for me to find things that fit me. When Matt gets into helping me, it works best. That happened a couple weeks ago, so I felt good about that. :)

Craft fairs... I have to agree with you there! I can't see spending money on something I could make, and a lot of that stuff just looks like next year's garage sale material to me!

State fairs... Now here, I disagree. I was a 4-H kid, and so I *love* seeing the animals at the fair, even watching some of the horse shows if I can con Matt into sitting through some of it! And I enjoy wandering through the exhibit barns, too, to see the projects kids worked on. I'm not so keen on the midway, though... it just never really did a whole lot for me, even as a kid.

Quilting clubs... never have been invited to join one, but it seems like it would be more social than anything, so I'm guessing I'd like it. I think I could find uses for quilts but never have spent time doing it.

Those parties you mentioned... I'm in total agreement with you! The Pampered Chef party I went to was fun--and tasty! But I *hate* feeling guilty about those other parties, so I never go to them!

Well, gotta go for now! Take care,
Amy :)

You are amazing Rachel, mother of 4 and you took time to blog and share your thougts. Love it!-Your family is so darling.
I will have to disagree on the mall thing. I have much more time than you though, to tackle all the stores to find the best bargain. I love to shop even if I don't buy anything. -If we lived closer I could shop for you :)
You are young in your life to figure out the craft stuff can be next years garage sale.I don't think I have ever been to a real"State fair", sad huh? or maybe not! Anyway, keep posting Rachel.

I have to agree with most of this. However for some reason I do like to shop around at Costco. Maybe it’s the warehouse atmosphere feels manlier and everything is in bulk at Costco. It’s like I’m on a hunt to track down and kill big game and drag it home to my family.

I went to the Ventura County Fair and you’re right. A lot of people were fatter than me. I never felt the urge to suck in my gut once. I celebrated this by eating two funnel cakes.

As far as the multi-level marketing parties and meetings.
I have finally learned to take Nancy Reagan’s advice and just say no.
